Metal Building System
Stop Metal Building Roof Leaks Easily.
Simply apply self-adhering Pol-E-Base to clean metal seams and coat with either white or grey 1300 coating.
Application of Pol-E-Base on the roof seams of a metal building is a definite time saver. The 1300T White Plastic cures dry and does not soften with the heat of the sun and does not become brittle. 1300 Gray can also be used as a finish coat. It is very similar to the 1300T but the cured gray color blends with the weathered galvanized metal so it is preferred if only the seams are being coated.
Products and System Introductions
Specification Chemicals, Inc. developed the POL-E-BASE METAL BUILDING REPAIR SYSTEM after 15 years and three generations of system improvements. The first generation was our #1300 WHITE PLASTIC with fiberglass scrim embedded over the seams. The fiberglass scrim was stiff and its memory made it difficult to apply. Next we exchanged the fiberglass scrim for polyester fabric which was more conforming and solved the fabric application problem.
The problem of roof movement from either wind or walking on the roof during application caused the lap seams to open and close before the mastic would cure and adhere to the metal surface. The result of this was usually distorted fabric or loss of liquid product leaving a void or inadequate mil thickness of mastic after this movement. The seam movement problem is even more of a factor with roof repair systems that do not use a reinforcement fabric.
The answer to all these problems came in 1988 when we first produced self adhering POL-E-BASE. Application is simple, you peel the release paper from the roll as you stick the membrane over the seam. The self adhering POL-E-BASE sticks to the metal instantly and assures an adequate and uniform thickness over the seam. POL-E-BASE assures encapsulation of the screws or fasteners. The exposed POL-E-BASE fabric produces an excellent substrate for the #1300 WHITE PLASTIC that is used as the protective coating over the POL-E-BASE.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, oil, grease, or any contaminate that would adversely affect adhesion.
POL-E-BASE #460 is a self-adhering, peel and stick roll roofing product to be used as a repair or total roof cover. POL-E-BASE is not intended to be a wearing surface and must be coated after application with cold process asphalt or acrylic coating.
POL-E-BASE is a unique formulation of premium grade bituminous resin, modified with synthetic resins and then reinforced with polyester fabric. Application is recommended at air and surface temperature of 40°F or above. Self-adhering POL-E-BASE has excellent adhesion to clean dry wood, concrete, and metal.
1300T Reflective White Roof Coating is a liquid acrylic emulsion formulated to cure to a flexible waterproof membrane. The cured product has excellent tensile, elongation, flexibility and recovery properties. #1300T WHITE PLASTIC quality products for roofing and waterproofing are time tested since 1975.
1300 Grey Plastic is also a liquid acrylic emulsion formulated to cure to a tough, flexible waterproof membrane. The roof coating is an elastomeric product with exceptionally high acrylic solids. The main difference in the 1300T and 1300 Grey is that the grey blends in well with the galvanized metal.
APPLICATION
Brush, roller or airless spray equipment may be used. Apply at the rate of 100 sq. ft. per gallon. Two or more coats are required for waterproofing and roofing applications. The 1300 Grey matches weathered galvanized metal.
PRECAUTIONS
Temperature and humidity affect the curing time. Do not apply at temperature below 50ºF, or if the temperature will fall below 40ºF within 24 hours. Do not apply if it will rain within 24 hours. Protect the contents of this container from freezing.
CLEAN-UP
Tools and equipment may be cleaned with water immediately after use.
