Which Flat Roof Repair System Fits Your Needs?
Selecting a Built-up Roof System
Specification Chemicals, Inc. gives you a choice of four built-up roof applications for your flat roof repair (1/4″ to 12″ minimum slope). The built up roof system to be used is determined by the condition and substrate of your existing flat roof. Below is a brief definition on each of the systems. If you’re not sure which option to use we’re available to help. For any questions call 800-247-3932.
This system is used on flat roof surfaces of plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), primed concrete, or Dens Deck Prime roof board. The substrate must be smooth and continuous with no gaps or ridges that would prevent the material from adhering. The surface must also be clean, dry and free from any contaminates and your flat roof.
One big advantage of the Pol-E-Base system is that once your Pol-E-Base is applied, your roof is dried in.
This is used on flat roof surfaces of plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), cured concrete, or Dens Deck roof board. This system requires a fairly smooth substrate.
Also keep in mind that the temperature and humidity affect the curing time. Do not apply the Pol-E-Scrim and Vap-R-Lok at temperature below 50ºF, or if the temperature will fall below 40ºF within 24 hours. Do not apply if it will rain within 24 hours. Your roof is not dried in until the coating is completely cured.
When you choose not to remove the existing flat roof, apply the Pol-E-Force Built-up Roof System. The Pol-E-Force reinforcing roof fabric is more conformable than the Pol-E-Scrim or Pol-E-Base so it works well on irregular existing surfaces.
With this system, like the others, the substrate must be sound, dry and dust free. If moisture is trapped in the existing roof it is recommended to tear it off. If the surface is not smooth enough you can fill and prime with Recycled Rubber Roof coating before you apply the Pol-E-Force with the Vap-R-Lok. The RRR can also be purchased in both liquid and Trowel Grade.
The Pol-E-Force system also should not be applied at temperature below 50ºF, or if the temperature will fall below 40ºF within 24 hours. Do not apply if it will rain within 24 hours. Your roof is not dried in until the coating is completely cured.
Simply apply self-adhering Pol-E-Base to clean metal seams and coat with either white or grey 1300 coating.
Application of Pol-E-Base on the roof seams of a metal building is a definite time saver. The 1300T White Plastic cures dry and does not soften with the heat of the sun and does not become brittle. 1300 Gray can also be used as a finish coat. It is very similar to the 1300T but the cured gray color blends with the weathered galvanized metal so it is preferred if only the seams are being coated.
